Connecting the world’s professionals through quality conversations within communities they trust
LinkedIn Groups serve as a digital gathering place for professionals sharing similar interests or industry backgrounds. These communities offer a space where members can exchange knowledge, seek guidance, and forge valuable connections.
From September 2021 to April 2022, I worked as a product designer on LinkedIn Groups.
I focused on creating experiences to help members discover the right communities, engage in meaningful conversations, and connect with each other.
During my time, I had the opportunity to work on several exciting features:
1. Interest-based group discovery: A system that suggests groups based on a member's professional interests, making it easier for members to find communities that align with their career goals and passions.
2. Integration with LinkedIn search: Incorporating groups into the native LinkedIn search, making it simpler for members to find relevant communities alongside other professional resources.
3. Member invitations: Allowing members to invite others to join a group, fostering organic growth within communities.
4. Enhanced content visibility: Surfaced relevant group posts in members' feeds, notified members about trending content in their groups, and created contextual entry points for deeper engagement with group content.
5. Welcome note for new group members: Allowing organizers to draft a welcome note for new members and share it with them in a personalized way on their first group visit.
Impact
These initiatives helped scale groups to approximately 50,000 healthy communities. This growth contributed to a 2.4% increase in session run rate across LinkedIn overall.
