Bring professional community together in real time
LinkedIn Events provide members with an easy way to create and join professional events that interest them. This feature offers a safe, trusted environment for any member to host events, with seamless real-time streaming and a low-friction, high-engagement attendee experience.
From January 2019 to November 2021, I led the design for attendee-side experiences on the LinkedIn Events team, working on everything from event discovery to post-event engagement.
Key features I helped design and ship include:
Speaker cards: Helping members learn about event speakers and decide if they're interested.
Event group chats: Allowing attendees to engage in conversations with each other.
Smart attendee lists: Clustering attendees based on connections, industry, and companies of interest for efficient networking.
Virtual stage: Building a platform for live event streaming and real-time engagement.
Post-event summary emails: Summarizing key moments and providing next steps.
Our team faced the challenge of working across three time zones (IST, EST, PST) and quickly pivoting from physical to virtual events due to the pandemic. We overcame these obstacles through effective remote collaboration and agile development practices.
Our design approach involved both quantitative and qualitative research methods to inform our feature pipeline. We regularly conducted usability studies, quality week sessions, and workshops to ensure our experiences met LinkedIn's trust and safety standards.
Impact
Scaled LinkedIn Events from concept to live product in late 2019.
Hosted events for notable companies like Salesforce, Xero, and L'Oreal.
Achieved nearly 5M monthly event attendees, leading to 1.5M member engagements and contributions.
